Getting started

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can briefly meet, discuss what you are looking for, and see whether working together feels like a good fit. This consultation is not a therapy session, but a chance for us to connect, ask questions, and determine whether my approach fits what you are seeking.

A good fit is about more than credentials, therapeutic approaches, or the concerns that bring you to therapy. It is also about how you feel in our work together: whether you feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself, and whether the pace and overall “vibe” feel supportive and comfortable rather than pressured or rushed. A therapeutic relationship takes time to develop, and you are always welcome to share how you are experiencing our work together.

No. Therapy is not an exam or a performance, and there is no right way to begin. You do not need to arrive with everything organized or clearly explained. Some people come with a specific concern, while others come with a sense that something feels heavy, confusing, or unresolved. Some may simply long for emotional connection, understanding, or a space where their feelings can be heard and acknowledged. We can begin with whatever feels most present and right for you, and gradually make sense of it together.

At this time, I offer virtual sessions only. Online therapy provides flexibility and accessibility, allowing you to participate from a familiar environment where you feel comfortable and at ease. Even though we are meeting virtually, we can still create a consistent, supportive, and meaningful therapeutic space together.

To protect your privacy and confidentiality, sessions should take place in a quiet, private setting where you feel comfortable speaking openly and can participate without interruptions.

Therapy can be short-term or longer-term depending on your needs, goals, and circumstances. Some people come with a specific concern they would like to address, while others may benefit from taking more time to explore recurring patterns, relationships, or deeper emotional experiences and needs. There is no fixed number of sessions, and we can regularly check in about how therapy is going and what feels most helpful for you.

As therapy unfolds, your goals and needs may change. Some concerns may become clearer or less pressing, while new areas for exploration may emerge. At other times, therapy may simply provide a consistent space for emotional support, reflection, and connection during difficult times.

Fees & policies

If we decide to begin, the first intake is typically a 60-minute intake session. During this session, we will explore your current concerns, relevant history, goals for therapy, and what kind of support may be most helpful. You do not need to share everything at once. We will move at a pace that feels respectful and manageable.

Ongoing therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. My fee is $200 per session.

I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as missed appointments, may be subject to a fee of 50% of the session rate. Exceptions may be made in cases of emergency or exceptional circumstances.

Coverage depends on your insurance plan. I recommend checking with your provider to see whether services from a Canadian Certified Counsellor, a therapist member/registrant of the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta, or a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with CRPO are eligible for reimbursement.

Receipts can be provided for you to submit to your insurance provider. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your individual plan.

Privacy & safety

Yes. What you share in therapy is treated as confidential, with some legal and ethical limits. These limits may include situations involving risk of serious harm to yourself or others, concerns about the safety of a child or vulnerable person, court orders, or other situations required by law or professional standards. We will review confidentiality and its limits together before beginning therapy.

I do not provide emergency or crisis services. If you are experiencing a crisis or need immediate support, please reach out for help by calling 911, visiting your nearest emergency department, or contacting a local crisis line. In Canada, you can also call or text 988 for suicide crisis support.

Please note that emails, text messages, and phone calls are intended for administrative purposes only and are not monitored for emergencies.

I may use AI-assisted note-taking tools, such as Jane AI Scribe or Klarify, to help capture session notes. These tools allow me to focus more fully on our conversations rather than taking notes during sessions. They are used solely for documentation purposes and do not make clinical decisions or influence the therapeutic process. I remain responsible for the accuracy and confidentiality of your clinical records.

I will explain how these tools are used and obtain your consent beforehand. If you have any questions or concerns, we can discuss them together.

Yes. I practise with ongoing clinical supervision. My clinical supervisor is Heather Beveridge, a Registered Social Worker registered in both British Columbia and Ontario. Clinical supervision supports ethical, competent, and reflective practice.

Relevant aspects of my clinical work may be discussed during supervision to support professional development and quality of care. These discussions are conducted with respect for client privacy and confidentiality, in accordance with applicable professional and ethical standards.

Between sessions

You are welcome to take notes during or after sessions if that feels helpful. Some people find it useful to write down reflections, emotions, questions, insights, dreams, body sensations, or patterns they notice in their daily lives. There is no right or wrong way to do this.

Notes are entirely optional, and you are not expected to share them with me or make them polished or complete. They can simply be a way to stay connected to your own experiences and reflections between sessions.

I may offer reflections, questions, grounding practices, journaling prompts, worksheets, or small between-session exercises when helpful. These are not mandatory assignments or tasks that need to be completed perfectly, but rather invitations to explore your experiences, notice patterns, and develop greater self-understanding at your own pace.

I generally encourage clients to bring longer reflections, documents, or updates into our sessions rather than sending them in advance. This allows us to explore the material together in a private, supportive space. If you send materials between sessions, I may save them for discussion at our next appointment, but I may not always be able to review them beforehand. I do not typically provide in-depth clinical review, therapeutic feedback, or counselling by email outside of sessions.

If additional review or written feedback outside of sessions is needed, we can discuss and agree on the scope, timing, and any associated fees in advance. This work may be billed as clinical time. Brief administrative communication, such as scheduling or form-related questions, can be handled by email.
